The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Thursday expanded digital access at the nation’s airports with the launch of free high speed WiFi services in partnership with MTN Nigeria.

The service is now live at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, with plans to extend coverage to other major international airports in the coming weeks.

Speaking at the launch, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, who was represented by director of airport operations, Captain Abdullahi Mammood, described the initiative as a milestone in the agency’s efforts to modernise airport infrastructure and enhance passenger experience.

She said the free WiFi service is designed to improve productivity and convenience for travellers who rely on internet connectivity for business, communication and access to vital information while in transit.

“The modern airport is no longer just a transit point. It is a hub of economic and social activity where people need to stay connected,” Kuku said, adding, “Today, we are addressing that need in a practical and impactful way.”

According to her, the partnership reflects FAAN’s commitment to aligning airport operations with global standards and supporting the Federal Government’s digital economy agenda.

She added that the service would soon be extended to the temporary terminal at the Lagos airport and subsequently to international airports in Enugu, Port Harcourt and Kano.

“Our goal is clear. No Nigerian airport should be left behind in a digital world,” she said.

Also speaking, the Chief Enterprise Business Officer of MTN, Lynda Saint Nwafor, said the collaboration underscores the value of public private partnerships in driving infrastructure development.

“Connectivity is no longer a luxury. It is an essential part of modern living,” she said, noting that passengers can now access the service freely while waiting to board, in transit or upon arrival.

Nwafor explained that the platform is supported by analytics enabled technology that will help both organisations understand usage patterns and improve service delivery, while maintaining compliance with data protection standards.

She said MTN teams would be on ground in Lagos and Abuja over the next month to support passengers and drive awareness of the service.
