The late Nollywood actor and playwright Fabian Adibe has been described as a gentleman and movie legend in Nigeria.

He would be remembered for his role in the 1980s NTA adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s classic novel, “Things Fall Apart”. He acted alongside Pete Edochie, Justus Esiri and Sam Loco Efe, and worked at NTA in the 80s.

Adibe also featured in over 300 movies, including “Slave Warrior” (2012), “White Kingdom 2” (2014), and “Father’s” (2014). Others are Peacemaker, Broken Plate, Evil Desire, Oke Belgium, The Prince and Princess, Honourable, Billionaires Club, Fire on the Mountain, Never Say Goodbye, Red Light, Good News, Two Together, Ungrateful, Reward of Goodness, Sunrise, Revolution, among others.

Further, he featured in foreign movies, including “Soweto,” a story about the struggle in South Africa, and “Mr. Johnson,” a Hollywood film.

A fan, Everyman Eleanya, said the actor was among the Igbo young men who formed the Odunke Artists that represented the region during the Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC) held in Lagos from December 1974 to January 1975.

“They wrote the Igbo play Ọnụkwube and the continuation Ọjaadịlị, which was staged at the festival. His name in the play is Dike,” he said.

“In ‘Things Fall Apart’, when adapted into film, he played the role of Ogbuefi Uzowulu,” he said.

Fabian Adibe. He was born in Okigwe in 1940. In 1965, he led Nigeria to its first participation in the Commonwealth Festival of Arts in London, United Kingdom.

Adibe was married with four children, who have gone on to fulfil their careers, including Chioma Adibe, who is an actress and model.
