From learning the basic runway skills, to tackling the challenges of cover-girl glamour, the new series delves into it all. From the tears to the triumphs, from bad hair days to the star turns, from the tough eliminations to the stand out successes, it’s all showcased in full color as some of the continent’s rising runway stars head into a whole new world of high fashion, high pressure modeling!
This week, in episode four, presenter Kaone Kario introduces audiences to the next challenge of Model BootCamp – shooting an exotic television advert for Neptune Hotel in Mombasa . Focused on capturing the tranquil and relaxing spirit of a tropical paradise, the advert involves some hard work…and for the semi-finalists at Model BootCamp it is their chance to show just how well they can take direction from a creative director and to show that they have what it takes to complete the long days and detailed work of being a top class model.
And if they don’t already know, they soon learn…the first lesson of being a successful model is that it takes much more than just looking good!
Audiences can tune in and watch the work in progress, as the Face of Africa semi-finalists get prepped and then undertake the tasks at hand…floating over a serene sea on a Dhow dressed in white from head to toe where focus and balance is the difference between being on the water and being in it; plucking a crayfish from the ocean and then doing it repeatedly until the light is just right for the shot; lying completely and totally still on the shoreline dressed in a fashionable metallic gold swimsuit waiting for the perfect wave; swimming underwater in a lime green bikini as take after take is shot for a segment that will last just a few perfect moments….it’s all in a day (or two’s) work.
Encouraged, supported and guided by fashion expert and catwalk professional Juanita Daniel, the semi-finalists discover their talents, their ability to transform into the vision created by the design
team and to prove that they too are destined to make their mark on Africa ’s vibrant fashion scene!
Adding to the fun, viewers will also hear some ‘Quick Picks’ from the semi-finalists including ‘who’s their role model’, ‘do they diet’ and whether they prefer ‘tea or coffee’?
Meanwhile, the stage is set for more drama with a tense elimination session looming at Model Boot Camp. The big question in episode four is…who will be the next semi-finalist to depart the series? Audiences will have to tune in to see the tough elimination session as the four person judging panel (comprising Juanita Daniel, fashion guru Jan Malan, Kaone Kario and dynamic young fashion stylist Oratile Seabela) make the difficult decision to send someone home. What follows is an emotional elimination as the semi-finalists wait to hear the news with no-one wanting to leave yet.
And it’s little wonder that the contestants want to stay involved with Face of Africa until the series finale in Lagos in February next year. The M-Net Face of Africa 2009 will walk away with a modeling contract from O Model Africa, USD 50 000 in cash from M-Net, skincare products for 12 months from Iman Cosmetics and a trip to New York, courtesy of Arise Magazine, to participate in New York Fashion Week. It’s a calling card that any young model would want – a glamourous entry to the haute couture club!
