According to Robert Iyinbor Roberts, brain behind the initiative this was conceptualised, as part of efforts to save the image of the North as well as empower the youths. “This project is a reality show where talented northern youths will be brought together to compete against each other. This will include arts and crafts of various products from the North; fashion and style with local fabrics as well as cultural displays.”
Roberts said talent is one of the greatest tools in entertainment today that cannot be over-emphasised. “Historically, a lot of talented persons have come from northern Nigerian specializing in arts and crafts. One exciting thing about ‘Face of D’North’ is that, apart from promoting talents and giving room to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the North, it will re-awaken the hidden talents of our northern youths and get them to be more productive as their works will be exhibited.
Auditions will take place in selected cities across the north with a grand finale scheduled for Abuja before a panel of judges from the culture and media industry. Airing will begin first quarter of 2013.
Participants, Roberts said, must be northerners or born in the North and will have good knowledge of the northern socio-cultural heritage.
