This will be the newest feature to be added to the Nigeria Model Green State Awards (NIMOGSA), which is a contest to determine which of the 36 states in the federation has the highest regards for the environment.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, CEO of the Mary Elika Foundation, Mrs. Mary Manzo said the effort is geared towards creating better awareness for environmental issues.

“The recent flooding in some parts of the country is a typical example of how inhuman the environment can be when abused,” she said.

The objective of the award, she said, is to “reward states that have shown exceptional leadership in environmental sustainability such as waste management, clean streets and provision of clean water.

“This year, the foundation plans to introduce the Face of the Environment tagged Ms Green and Beautiful.

“The face of the environment programme will add the entertainment needed to attract the younger ones mostly to issues of the environment,” she said.

It entire programme is designed to recognise states and individuals who have shown commitment to environmental protections, she said.
