The Coordinator of Fadama III Project in Sokoto State, Dr. Muhammad Mustapha, has expressed optimism on the sustainability of Fadama III Project.  This is just as a total of 243 graduates, unemployed youths and women in the state have been trained in agricultural enterprises.

“History has shown that many projects ceased to exist immediately after the exit of the donor agencies because they were not properly managed and mechanisms for sustainability were not put in place. It is indeed a different story for Fadama III,” he asserted.

Mustapha explained that, “This is largely due to the community-driven development (CDD) concept and historic achievements of the Fadama III Project in the state from inception to date and the sustainability mechanism instituted by the project during the implementation process.”

On the training programme, he said it was organised under the pilot Fadama Graduate Unemployed Youth and Women Scheme (Fadama GUYS) of the Sokoto State Fadama III Additional Financing which was initiated by the Third National Fadama Development Project Office, Abuja, and funded by the World Bank.
