The Kano State Police Command has dismantled a notorious syndicate of fake police officers who had been terrorizing unsuspecting citizens across Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna states.

Operatives of the command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) arrested the suspects on October 16, 2025, following a swift and well-coordinated intelligence-led operation.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects were nabbed while posing as genuine officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

During the operation, the police recovered several incriminating items, including a fake police warrant card, a pair of handcuffs, N2,500 in CFA currency, mutilated naira notes of various denominations, and their operational vehicle a blue Peugeot 406 with registration number NSR-188-BD.

SP Kiyawa disclosed that preliminary investigations uncovered shocking details about the group’s operations. 

The impostors allegedly used forged police identification cards to extort money from innocent citizens, harass motorists, and engage in acts of criminal intimidation across major cities in the North-West region.

“The suspects have confessed to several acts of impersonation and fraudulent operations. They will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” Kiyawa stated.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response.
