The police in Katsina State have arrested a man, suspected to have been parading himself as a medical doctor for years, with seven certificates suspected to be forged.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Gambo Isah, said the suspect, Joseph Umaru, 38, had been carrying different medical procedures on unsuspecting patients for several years in Kaita town of the state.

He said the suspect, who has since confessed to the crime, hails from Ofu LGA of Kogi State but was residing at Kwado Quarters in Katsina metropolis.

The “Suspect has been parading himself as a medical doctor in Kaita LGA of Katsina State, attending to patients and performing different types of medical procedures including prescription of drugs, injections, taking of blood samples and blood transfusion,” Isah said.

He added that “Items recovered from his possession are seven different certificates of Colleges of Health Technology Kankia and Funtua suspected to be forged; different types of surgical equipment and drugs; several blood samples, syringes and needles as well as hospital receipts and prescription booklets.”

He also mentioned one Rabe Lawal, 49, and one Shehu Halilu, 37, all of Kaita LGA of Katsina State as his accomplices.

Further investigation is being carried out and the suspect will soon be charged to court, he added.
