Fake soldier nabbed in Ondo for stealing friend’s car

One Solomon Shina, has been arrested in Ondo State for allegedly stealing a vehicle belonging to his close friend.

Shina (28) was apprehended by the men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in his residence at No. 15, Ijala Street, Arakale, Akure last week.

The suspect, who claimed to be a military officer with 32 Brigade Artillery, Owena Cantonment, in Akure, was accused of stealing a Toyota Hilux van 2014 model belonging to his friend, Ojo Olumuyiwa Anthony.

Daniel Aidamenbor, the spokesperson for the NSCDC in the state, confirmed Shina’s arrest in a statement issued to journalists in Akure on Thursday.

Mr Aidamenbor said the suspect took the vehicle without the owner’s consent for an undisclosed assignment only to return thereafter to inform his friend that the vehicle had been stolen.

“Upon arrest and investigation, the suspect who claimed to be a military officer with 32 Brigade Artillery, Owena Cantonment, was never enlisted with the Nigerian Army.

“The suspect admitted to having called the owner of the vehicle 24 hours after the vehicle had been stolen. There are lots of inconsistencies in the statement of the suspect between when he took the vehicle and when he reported the vehicle stolen.

“Investigation is still ongoing to determine if there were other accomplices and to recover the vehicle whose document reveals it belongs to the Ondo State Government,” he said.
