The FCT Police Command has arrested two suspected fake soldiers and nine armed robbers terrorising residents of the capital city.

The Police Commissioner, Bala Ciroma, said while operatives of the command were on stop and search duty at Galadimawa roundabout, they arrested the two fake soldiers who were suspected to be members of a notorious robbery syndicate that has been terrorising motorists and residents along the axis.

He said the suspects, Idongesit James, 25 and Monday Ezekiel, 20,  who were arrested in military uniform, also had in their possession two daggers, one axe, five wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, different ATM cars and charms.

“Other suspects arrested with them are Hamza Mamman and Hannafi Abubakar.

“Also arrested is one Amos Christopher, 24, who is their accomplice. As soon as investigations are concluded, the suspects will be arraigned in court,” he said.

Sources said preliminary investigation had revealed that one of the suspects arrested in military uniform had been confirmed to be a serving army officer.

Also, the command said its Karu Division on August 3, arrested one Obiora Christian, 24 and Joshua Okpaluwa while trying to escape after robbing a sales girl at a supermarket of her Infinix Hot phone and N70,000 cash.

It was gathered that revelations made by the suspects during interrogation led to the arrest of one Eze Chime, 30, whom they identified as their receiver. 

One English pistol and one live ammunition were reportedly recovered from the suspects.

The CP also announced the arrest of five suspects while allegedly vandalising a telecommunication mast at Sabon Bwari.

He said one locally made pistol, one Siena bus, one live ammunition, spanners and a generator exhaust (removed from the generator attached to the telecom mast) were recovered from the suspects as exhibits.

The suspects arrested were: Celestine Omale, 25, Simeon Jeremiah, 23, Momoh Christopher, 24, Daniel Boniface Alhaji, 24 and Shola Akinsheye, 38.

He said all the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
