In 2008, Equatorial Guinea hosted and won the African Women Championship after beating the Super Falcons 1-0 at the semi-final stage.

Consequently, Falcons’ aim will be to avenge that defeat and also win the trophy at stake in order to take back their leadership of African female football.

Falcons are gunning for their sixth title having won the AWC trophy five times before the slip in 2008 in Equatorial Guinea.

Going by Falcons impressive run in the Championship, they are highly favoured to lift the trophy but their opponents too have shown ability to spring another surprise.

To get to the finals, Falcons white washed the indomitable Lionesses of Cameroun 5-1, while Equatorial Guinea against all odds defeated host South Africa 3-1 in the other semi-final match.

Falcons’ highly experienced and inspirational player, Perpetual Nkwocha, is coming into the final as the leading scorer with 10 goals in her kitty and has promised to meet up with her 15 goals target.

Although her gender is a contentious issue, Equatorial Guinea’s striker Salimata  Simpore will feature and is surely going to be a thorn in the flesh of Falcons’ defenders.
