False hopes of a PDP implosion

How do I know that so well? Well, over the years, I have learnt that the strongest glues that bond men better than araldite is not the trademark glue itself, heavily pirated in our local market, but corruption and we all have come to accept that it is constantly mutated at Wadata Plaza. We know it’s true, the reason we hope it’s the other way round is just to see our dreams come true. Then we wake up and its shame shit only a different day.
I have looked at the so-called Reform Group. The masters of the group have done nothing extra-ordinary except of course, tasting the purgatory. Long after the sirens have been silenced and they have had to wade through the traffic like the rest of us lesser mortals; drive through the pot holes and meandered through the bushes, perhaps have a couple of scuffle with the night marauders and the gun boys who run the show while the police take a nap. And I tell you, from where they are coming, that is pretty scary. So, please help me warmly welcome Ken Nnamani and Aminu Bello Masari and the group of tag-alongs who are shouting their heads off the airwaves saying the PDP must reform. Welcome back to the real world, gentlemen. You’ll soon get used to what we have gotten accustomed to and stop hollering like a group of disenchanted school boys bullied by their seniors. Believe me.
I also have some words of discouragement for those who see Vincent Ogbulafor as a fall-guy. I welcome them from their voyage of self-delusion. Vincent, a dutiful errand boy had a plum job as a minister of the federal republic when Obasanjo ordered him to take on a dirtier job perhaps conscious of his credentials for that job. Ogbulafor has performed creditably except that he failed to return Olusegun Obasanjo for an indefinite term. Instead he delivered a sickly Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. It’s a case of hitting the stars if you can’t shoot down the moon. And Ogbulafor knows that the job comes with sticks and carrots, at least his predecessors’ have such history.
Audu Ogbeh had his time with the pistol boys, Barnabas Gemade had his own stint with the system, but he was a good boy who never rocked the boat and he got off lightly. A lot was said about the Garrison Commander, Ahmadu Ali. He was used several times but was a typical soldier to the core. He even had to cope with the public display with Nasir el-Rufai’s men pretending to demolish his house like those of other commoners. It’s all part of the script and when the din went low, Ali got a generous pay-off, perhaps more than the actual value of the so-called house he built on a sewer. Now, what I have not succeeded in finding out is whether after the dust settled, Ali did not simply raise back his roof and continue business as usual. It’s not beyond the PDP script usually written by the accomplished playwrights of Wadata Plaza. Believe me, Soyinka in his wisdom could not have churned out such evil masterpiece and that’s not to make trite of Obasanjo’s remark about the conduct of future elections.
Suddenly, Ogbulafor is so eager to face trial; he even went to an empty court and stayed there to be photographed for those who might think otherwise. Suddenly, el-Rufai is back in the country and would keep his date with the EFCC. Suddenly, Nuhu Ribadu is coming back a ‘free man’ to the rump of the system that once persecuted him. And suddenly, Nigerians are upbeat about the implosion in the PDP and a new world order in which Goodluck Jonathan is the midwife of a new Nigeria. I want to believe all that comedic part of the tragedy being spurn from the web of snakes that is Wadata Plaza. But tell me, how many of you have suddenly woken up to the reality that there is a big difference between those sweet dreams and the stark reality of the humdrum of our daily lives? How many of us know that with PDP, the more it seems to change, the more it worsens?
