Families cry out as police detain 5 friends of suspect

The family members of five people, Zubairu Dan Zaria, Husseini Haruna, Dan America and two others, in Kpadna village in Utako District in the FCT have accused the police of detaining their relatives without any charge.

One of the family members, Ibrahim Haruna, said the detainees had been in the Life Camp Division since Thursday after they accompanied one Zubairu Dan Zaria to the division for a follow up on his seized tricycle (Keke NAPEP) allegedly involved in phone snatching.

He said three days after their detention the police had not explained to the families why no charges were filed against them.

He explained that, “Dan Zaria was in Zaria, Kaduna State, when the tricycle was seized because its operator, alongside his friends, was allegedly involved in phone snatching some weeks ago. One of the suspects was arrested and was in police custody already while the real suspect is still at large.”

Haruna, therefore, appealed to the police to release the suspects since there were no charges established against them.

He added that, “If the owner is released, he would even help the police in searching for the real suspect.”

When contacted, the FCT command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said she would investigate and get back to our reporter as soon as possible.
