The family of Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, 22, a 200-level Microbiology student of the University of Benin, who was raped and murdered inside a Church in Benin, has decried the delay in justice for their daughter after more than five years.

On May 27, 2020, Omozuwa was attacked, raped and murdered by yet to be identified person at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), in Ikpoba Hill, Benin City, while she was studying in preparation for her examination.

She was found in a pool of her blood by a security officer and rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where she died on May 30, 2020.

Speaking for the family on Saturday at the deceased’s gravesite in Benin to commemorate her birthday, Judith Omozuwa lamented that the family was yet to get justice almost six years after Vera was gruesomely murdered inside a church.

According to her, the delay in justice for Vera has shattered the family, saying they have been attending the hearing of the case.

She said the only thing that can bring peace to the family is when the culprits are brought to book to serve as a deterrent to others who might be nursing such thoughts.

Also speaking, the elder sister to the deceased, Sandra Omozuwa, appealed to the Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo, to revisit the case and ensure that justice is served in a record time.
