The family of slain lawyer, Mediatrix Chigbo, alongside the Global Association of Female Attorneys (GAFA), has called for a thorough investigation into her murder.

The appeal was made during a Night of Tribute organized in Chigbo’s honor by GAFA on Friday in Abuja.

Ms. Maureen Chigbo, the deceased’s younger sister, described the death as tragic and devastating, urging authorities to ensure that justice is served.

Maureen, a former President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), noted that her background as an investigative journalist has led her to closely monitor the case and the individuals involved.

She revealed significant discrepancies between statements made by the suspects and the established facts, highlighting contradictions that she insists must be resolved during the official investigation.

“We are not dealing with suppositions. A homicide investigation must examine all loopholes to establish the truth,” she said. “Why do we insist on this? My sister fought for justice and advocated for the poor; we will not let her struggle be in vain. We want justice for her and for humanity, so the dead can rest and the living can live in peace.”

Maureen explained that on the day of the incident, the deceased had attended evening Mass and spoken to her sister before a distress call was received, followed by threats from unidentified persons.

She urged legal professionals and stakeholders to support a rigorous investigation and ensure the perpetrators are prosecuted to serve as a deterrent.

Mrs. Chinelo Iriele, GAFA International President, described Chigbo as a devoted colleague and a former International Secretary of the association.

Iriele urged authorities to fully investigate, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible, stating that accountability is essential to deter future crimes. (NAN)
