The family of the Jos taxi driver, Sadiq Abdullahi Karafa, allegedly killed by soldiers, has sued the Nigerian Army.

Daily Trust reported how the deceased was allegedly beaten to death on September 11, 2021 after returning from Mangu LGA for the day’s work, less than half a kilometre to his house, by soldiers of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a multi-security task force maintaining peace in the state, stationed at Faringada market.

Though the headquarters of the task force, through its spokesman, Major Ishaku Takwa, had promised to investigate and fish out the perpetrators of the act, they are yet to do so.

In a writ of summons signed by the registrar of Jos Federal High Court, the plaintiff (wife of the deceased, Sa’adatu Sabi’u) and her children, and his mother, Mama Yahanasu Adamu, are calling for justice over the killing of their breadwinner.

The defendants also called on the court to declare “that the arrest, detention, torture, inhuman treatment and brutal killing of the deceased, Sadiq Abdullahi Karafa, by the deliberate act of the personnel of the defendants is a deprivation of the deceased’s right to life.

They prayed the court to give an order directing the defendants to join and pay the plaintiff the sum of N250 million as damages for killing the breadwinner of the family.
