The family of the 19-year-old teenager, Iyangbe Jeffrey, killed in a suspected cult-related attack at a football viewing centre recently at Coca-Cola Road, Ilorin has called for justice.

The late teenager’s aunt, Mrs Mary, recounted his last moments during a chat with our correspondent on Sunday.

According to her, she had warned the deceased not to go out that fateful night, but his passion for football proved too strong to resist.

“He was told not to go out that night, but it fell on deaf ears because the boy loves watching football, and his favourite club was playing that fateful night. It’s just too much to bear,” she added, fighting back tears.

She called on the authorities concerned including the security agencies to do the needful for them to get justice.

Abdullahi Taiwo, a close friend of Jeffrey’s, described him as a cool-headed soul, who was not affiliated with any cult group.

“He was a cool-headed boy, and I’m shocked to see him lying in a pool of blood. I couldn’t eat that night as I was still reeling from the shock. It’s like a nightmare that I wish would end,” Taiwo said.

The community leader, Mogaji Yahaya, expressed shock and sadness over the incident, describing it as a first in the community.

“The ugly incident was the first of its kind in our community. We’re still trying to come to terms with it. As a matter of fact, we have put some security measures to avert future occurrences while we await justice for the deceased,” he declared.

Daily Trust reports that the deceased was reportedly shot on the head and he died on the spot.

Two others, who were left injured during the invasion that occurred around 9:05 pm when fans were engrossed in a live football match, later died at the hospital.
