The family of a secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State who was allegedly murdered and dumped in River Niger last week has petitioned the state commissioner of police.
The deceased, Chukwudi Chinwuba, was also said to be the President General of Oroma Etiti Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area, before his death.
The family listed a native doctor (names withheld) and four others among those who perpetrated the killing.
Briefing newsmen in Onitsha, at the weekend, on behalf of the family to the deceased, the brother, Chinwuba Chinenye, urged the police commissioner to ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of all those involved to ensure justice is done.
The petition read in part, “I write to bring to your knowledge the deliberate killing of my elder brother, Mr Chukwudi Julius Chinwuba, in broad day light, at about 1200hours – 13hours on 15th November 2017 at Umunzu clan, Oroma Etiti Anam, in front of the house of a native doctor who is one of the five key conspirators and participants in the murder using a machete.”
He said the contest for the post of president general as well as the secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which was won by his slain brother against the ‘almighty politicians’, triggered envy which eventually led to his murder.
He said the deceased came back to the village to answer calls by elders of the community to settle the dispute that came after the election “not knowing that the named native doctor and other four key players in the dastardly murder were lying in wait for him.”
“They pounced on him at first sight and started beating him severally with machete; tied him up to blocks, took him away and threw him into river Niger,” Chinenye claimed.
