Family planning not about population reduction – expert

A family planning expert Dr Elizabeth Omoluabi ‎of PMA2020 said the group is not championing family Planning promotion simply to reduce human population in Nigeria.

She said the organisation is purely promoting FP to protect the rights of women of reproductive age.

Speaking at a Media Parley with PM‎A2020 organised by Pathfinder International in Kaduna, Dr Elizabeth said investment on FP is best investment for human capital.

She also added that women should be given the right to discuss the number of children they intend to‎ give birth with their spouses.

” We are not promoting family planning to reduce the population of the country. It’s purely to promote the right of women to choose the number of children to give birth to.

” We are only respecting women rights because women that gives birth yearly end up losing their lives ‎as a result of health challenges. This is why government is making a lot of investment on FP,” she said.

Dr Elizabeth said demand for FP services is increasing in Kaduna State because majority of women wants to space child bearing.

She commended the PMA2020 and Pathfinder International including other stakeholders for their commitment in FP advocacy in the state and country in general.
