The Tongshang family in Bull community of Kabwir District, Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure justice following the killing of a family member and the burning of twelve houses in the area.
The family, which made the call on Tuesday during a press briefing in Jos, also stated that the attack led to the loss of property worth millions of naira.
Nde Paul, who spoke on behalf of the family, disclosed that after the attack, some of the prime suspects were arrested but later released without being charged to court or without any explanation for their release.
He said, “Some people criminally conspired and attacked one Yilbet Samwa Tongshangha with machetes and other dangerous weapons, injuring him, and also set fire to houses in the village.”
“The reason for the attack is best known to them. The matter was later reported to the Police at Kanke Divisional Police Headquarters, and the DPO in charge directed his men to the village. They took the injured victim to the General Hospital Kanke, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor.”
“However, we feel that the police are trying to shield the arrested suspects and those at large to escape justice. We call on the Plateau State Government and the Inspector General of Police to intervene to ensure justice for the victims,” he added.
The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, did not responded to inquiries by our correspondent as at press time.
