Why has it become so popular? Well I spoke to an Abuja based car dealer on this developing trend and what he told me is that people often appreciate the interior spacing and the engine in most cases. The common users are families with over four kids or more.

It has nice interior and has a large engine and plenty of economy. Moreover its pulling power is beautifully engineered to provide a little bit of driving thrill but not at an optimum level.

But is it really a market function of practicality. I don’t believe so, not with this trend. There are many other cars that offer the same level of experience or even better perhaps at the same affordable price. You could look at the 4×4, SUVs, crossovers or some family saloons. Rather what it does is it offers a huge body, a bit of luxury pleasure and a little savings to your pocket which appeals to the general public. Additionally it has a pedigree for reliability when we look at the popular brands. The seats offer lots of comfort for the driver and the passengers.

This is because of its size and versatile design- at least that’s what I experienced. Additionally it offers all that at an affordable price of over one million to a little over three million naira. The running cost is economical for most users. A jeep offering the same level of comfort, handling and safety will cost just a little bit more with far higher maintenance and running cost.

I must say the Japanese have really done their home work when they made these vehicles including the American with their Chrysler, as they have flood this sector with their product. This is because this sector of the motor industry especially in the tokunbo market has really become the popular trend that is pulling a lot of weight today.

The Honda odyssey I was in, had one thing I love most which was the power door it dazzled the eye lookers at that time. Yet that was not even the most recent model. Particularly the Toyota Sienna has had it reputation from Toyotas reliability records it has built over the years. It has become very common on the streets of Abuja. The thing that pleases me is that the huge size offers so much protection for the passengers without much compromise to the driving quality and performance.

So would I buy one for myself? Well, I am not sure about that. I would still prefer to have a little bit more driving thrill than what it offers.
