A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the police from unlawfully arresting him.
The police had last week invited Fani-Kayode to appear at the Force Headquarters before August 28, 2018 over alleged "conspiracy, criminal defamation, inciting publication, injurious falsehold and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace."
However, in a motion on notice dated August 28, 2018 and marked FHC/ABJ/CS/917/ 2018, the former minister has asked the court to declare that the said letter of invitation by the police is unlawful, unjustifiable, illegal and unconstitutional.
His counsel, Kayode Ajulo asked the court to declare that in accordance with the 1999 Constitution, he cannot be so invited by law enforcement agents for undisclosed reasons and without adequate notice.
The former Aviation minister informed the court that the invitation letter was so vaguely constructed that "I became apprehensive and concerned about the intentions of the Nigerian Police."
