The pain of seeing the Super Eagles exit the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations is yet to abate as some Cameroon fans have said they miss the Nigerian side.
It will be recalled that Super Eagles were knocked out of the tournament after losing 1-0 to Tunisia in the Round of 16.
Speaking to a cross-section of fans after the host nation, Cameroon defeated Gambia 2-0 and qualified for the semi-finals at the Stade de Japoma, Doula, they said they had hoped to see Nigeria play against their country.
A tech entrepreneur, Dimi Likoua said he has so many Nigerian friends just as he said he has been to the country several times and watched the Super Eagles for years.
“Nigeria is almost my second home as I regularly come around for business. I have been watching the Super Eagles for several years now and they have players who play in some big clubs in Europe.
“The dream final would have been Cameroon against Nigeria because of their strength. Sadly, the god of soccer was not happy with them and had to leave early,” he joked.
Another businessman, Bachir Kepawou, said he was disappointed in Nigeria as the whole nation looked up to them to light up the tournament after their performance in the group stages.
“Nigeria was the best team in the group stages as they were the only team to win all three games. With those achievements, we were all expecting them to dazzle their way around all opponents.
“They really disappointed us. I know some people who had placed bets on Nigeria to win the game against Tunisia but sadly, our expectations were cut short too early,” he said.
A taxi driver, Kamil Aziz, said though he would have loved to see the Eagles play till the finals their exit is Cameroon’s gain.
