It marks the end of your military career after 34yrs of active service. Oyebade was commissioned at the NDA as 2nd Lt in June 1985 and interestingly, the commissioning was by the then military president Muhammadu Buhari and coincidently, today ending his military career under the same President who commissioned him. Gen. Oyebade indeed is an exemplary leader who set a good path for senior military officers to emulate. How I wish all Nigerian Generals were like Oyebade. I was in NDA Kaduna both old side Kawo and Afaka.
Nigerian Defense Academy has been in existence since 1964 but has never witnessed a workable commandant like the immediate past Commandant Gen. Oyebade. I was able to go round and make some findings and interview those staying at the barracks.
It will not be an exaggeration if I assert that Maj Gen. Oyebade remains the best commandant so far due to the following: for the first time in the history of the academy, 7 out of 10 professional inaugural lectures had been delivered within an academic year.
All courses offered at the academy are accredited by NUC. Come to talk of constant power supply, on time maintenance of power equipment, potable water supply, rehabilitation of old blocks to standard and modern ones, well trained cadets and lot more. It has been a tremendous privilege and honour to write about some of the legacies of a true patriot that if I am to spend the whole day mentioning his achievements, time and space wouldn’t permit me.
