Farmer arrested over attempt to kill herder in Gombe

The police in Dukku LGA of Gombe State are said to have arrested a farmer for attempting to kill a herdsman over trespassing.

The farmer, Amadu Oko (35), of Daminya village, was said to have warned the herder, Kawu Adamu (18), of Gasakahe village, to stay clear of a grazing route near his farm, an order which he said the herder ignored.

Sources said the farmer, irked by ignoring his command, pounced on the herder and pulled him to the ground and used the latter’s knife to inflict several cuts on his body.

A source said, “Oko, being stronger than the victim, was able to drag him to the ground and confiscate his knife with which he tried to stab the youngster on his stomach. The herder fought back and in the process got severe cuts on his body. Oko then retreated after having realised that people were getting wind of the fight.”

When contacted, Gombe State police spokesman, Maheed Muazu Abubakar, said the command was unaware of the incident, but said he would get back to our reporter when he ascertained the case.
