A Sokoto chief magistrates’ court, yesterday, sentenced a 35-year-old farmer, Yahaya Bello,to 12 months in prison for assault, intimidation and theft.
Hassan did not give the accused an option of fine after he pleaded guilty. Bello, who resides at Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara, pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of criminal force, assault, intimidation and theft.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Monday Kennedy, had earlier told the court that the matter was reported by Aminu Rabiu of Illelagarage in Sokoto at Uguwan Rogo Police Station in December 2018.
Kennedy said the complainant picked the defendant as a passenger on his commercial motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer valued atN160,000 from Kalambaina Motor park to Mana area, Sokoto.
He added that on reaching the motor park, the defendant conspired with one Haruna Usman now at large where he tied himwith a rope, threatened to slaughter him with a knife and stole his motorcycle, his mobile phone worth N4,000 and N5,500 cash. The prosecutor said the defendant was arrested as he tried to escape and the said motorcycle and phone were recovered. (NAN)
