Farmer bags life sentence for defiling 13-year-old girl

A Kwara State High Court in Ilorin on Friday sentenced a farmer, Segun Oni, to life imprisonment for defiling a 13-year-old girl at Igbaja, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.

Justice Adenike Akinpelu, in the judgement, convicted Oni of illegal sexual intercourse, contrary to Section 31(1&2) of the Kwara State Child Rights Law.

According to the judgment, the matter was filed three years ago with an allegation that Oni lured the victim inside the bush with mango fruit where he forcefully took advantage of her.

The accused was represented by Dr Taiye Oniyide who argued that the victim was an ‘imbecile’ and could not have been raped by his client.

Speaking with Daily Trust Saturday, the defence who is a principal counsel at the Kwara State Ministry of Justice, Muslimat Nagode, said “three witnesses including the victim, her guardian, caught the accused raping the victim under a tree.
