A 60-year-old farmer, Mohammed Akpai, has reportedly bled to death after some hoodlums attacked him on his farm at Ebeje-Efabo in Oganenigwu ward, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident reportedly occurred when the suspects had an altercation with the deceased while he was tending to his crops.

Locals said the suspects macheted the farmer, causing him to bleed to death.

“Mohammed, a senior man in the Ebeje-Efabo community, left for his farm as usual to tend to his crops on Tuesday,” said Jibo Ataguba, a resident of the community.

He added, “When he didn’t return home at his usual time, uneasiness gripped his immediate family, making them raise an alarm. A search party later found his lifeless body on his farm with cuts all over.

“To our surprise, part of his left hand was cut off and taken away by his assailants. We call on security operatives and the state government to come to our aid over incessant attacks in the community.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), William Aya, said he would reach out to operatives in that area regarding the incident. He had not yet responded to our reporter at the time of filing this report.
