Talking with our reporter, the cattle farmer, Alhaji Gambo Salisu Haruna, from Bauchi State said, “I had to transport just the 1 ton Friesian cattle alone and a balami ram in a big truck to Abuja for the agricultural show.”
He added that it would have been very expensive to transport the cattle to Abuja if not for his personal truck.
Alhaji Haruna who rears cattle for both beef and milk, said he has 24 exotic cattle and a good number of local ones in addition to rams of various sizes in his farm in Bauchi.
The farmer disclosed that he came to the agricultural show to get knowledge and find market for his cattle, adding that he has also used the opportunity to buy some vegetable seeds to plant.
“I am ready to sell the cattle I brought here if I get a buyer”, the farmer told Daily Trust. When asked how much the cattle will cost, he said, “I can sell it for one million naira.”
He urged government to assist livestock farmers in the area of feeds as it is a major challenge to their business.
