A 41-year-old farmer, Abur Tyowua, resident of Tombo village in Buruku LGA, has been remanded in a correctional facility by a magistrates’ court in Makurdi, Benue State, on allegations that he conspired to beat a commercial motorcyclist to death.

He was alleged to have conspired with three others to beat the 32-year-old motorcyclist, Fanen Vanger, to death.

The prosecutor told the court that a brother of the deceased, Aondohemba Vanger, reported the matter at the Buruku police station on April 20, that his younger brother went out for his normal Okada business on that fateful day but never returned home.

He said the complainant stated further that he later got information that a group from Tombo village took his brother to an unknown destination and beat him to death, adding that the alleged killers, whose names were given as Terkuma Shidi, Kashima Shidi, Abur Tyowua and Aondongu Wuan, threw the corpse into River Buruku.

The prosecution said the Shidis were earlier arrested by the police and charged to court, while Tyowua who had been at large had just been arrested; leaving one suspect still at large.
