A farmer, identified as Mr. Sunday Darian, has been reportedly killed in an ambush near the Jol community in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the development to journalists in Jos, explaining that the victim was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital.
According to Tengwong, “An armed group suspected to be Fulani militants ambushed Mr. Sunday Darian of Jol Community along the Jol–Sho road.
The attack occurred at about 3:11pm on Friday, February 20, 2026, as the victim and a woman were returning from the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
Mr. Darian, who sustained severe injuries, was confirmed dead at a hospital in Barkin Ladi.”
However, the State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, denied the allegation, stating that the killing was carried out by motorcycle snatchers rather than their members.
“The same road where the man was attacked is where our members lost two motorcycles to criminals who snatched them two days ago. Our members were on their way home when that incident happened. This latest attack was not carried out by our members,” Babayo said.
The spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is underway.
He called on residents of Riyom and surrounding villages to remain calm.
“The command received a report regarding Sunday Darian, who was attacked and confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) will not take lightly any plans to disrupt the peace; all efforts have been put in place to restore confidence. We have been engaging with all stakeholders to restore mutual trust and will continue to do so,” Oteh stated.
