This was disclosed by the ICRISAT Director, West and Central Africa, Ramadjita Tabo, during the institute’s technical meeting session with Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria held at the institute’s conference hall in Kano.
According to him, the institution has recorded a significant improvement in the level of acceptance of the improved groundnut seed introduced to the farmers.
He added that the essence of the meeting was to review the previous work plan of the institution and develop a new one with the view to enhancing agricultural practices, adding that the meeting also aimed to strengthen the existing relationship between the institute and its partners to encourage agricultural development in the region.
Speaking during the meeting, the Director, Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), in Zaria, Professor Ibrahim Umar Abubakar, stated that the acceptance level of the improved seed by farmers has statistically improved the ground yield by 40%.
“Last year, we were able to push for the adoption of the groundnut improved variety to the farmers and it has yielded positive result in increase in yield,” said Abubakar.
