The farmers feared that the collapse would adversely affect the Wurno irrigation scheme, one of the notable agricultural schemes in the state.
“We are appealing to government to ensure the problem affecting Lugu Dam is rectified immediately to avert  such adverse situations  as dearth of food  and flooding  during the rainy season,’’ Malam Aliyu, one of the farmers  stated.
Among the crops produced there include rice, onions and garlic.
Speaking on the dam, Sokoto State Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Arzika Tureta, said a competent contractor would be contracted to handle the project.
The commissioner said that the problem would be redressed soon.
