Farmers and herders alike in some rural communities in Zamfara state defied movement restriction orders in the ongoing gubernatorial and House of Assembly election in the state.

At villages in Bungudu, Maru and Tsafe local government areas farmers were spotted clearing bushes on their farmlands in preparation for this year’s farming season.

The Inspector General of Police Suleiman Abba had issued restriction on movement from 8am to 5pm for the election.

Similarly, men of voting age were seen herding their animals in the bush defying the National assignment, as they had shown no readiness to participate in the elections.

When accosted by our reporter a herder, who gave his name as Habibu Lado, said he is quite aware of the election ,but may not exercise his civic duty citing the recent victory of General Muhammad Buhari as reason.

“I voted for General Muhammad Buhari a couple of weeks ago and he won. What else am I looking for? What matters a lot to me was the presidential election, so I don’t care who wins the state,” he said.

There was early arrival of election officials and material in most of the polling centres visited ,and long queues of waiting voters were seen in some of the villages and towns
