Farmers/herdsmen clashes: Sokoto gets 9 grazing reserves

Nine grazing reserves are being demarcated across Sokoto state as part of measures to check farmers/herdsmen clashes.

Commissioner for Animal Health and Fisheries Development, Alhaji Muhammadu Tukur Alkali  disclosed this while speaking on the activities of his ministry under the present administration.

He said the move was also to ensure adequate provision for pasture to livestock.

The Commissioner disclosed that assorted livestock vaccines and equipment for the control of animal and related diseases were procured at 14million while the state government had released N8. 6 million for the procurement of livestock supplementary feeds for government cattle ranch and breeding centres at Kebbe and Dogon-Daji.

"These centres were meant for production, multiplication of the endangered and important species," he stated.

He assured that the proposed Sokoto cattle cross breeding, milk and meat processing project had reached advanced stage.

The Commissioner also disclosed that N11million  had been released for renovation of Veterinary clinic at Aliyu Jodi, Sokoto towards enhancing services at the hospital.

On fisheries, he said 140 fish farmers including women and pensioners benefitted from the state government support programme on which N19million was expended.
