Farmers told to pay for or forfeit allocated tractors

The directive was given by the state Commissioner of Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba, when he visited the State ministry of agriculture. Garba said despite the subsidised rate at which the tractors were sold to them, some of the farmers are yet to reciprocate the gesture by paying the money. He directed the ministry to ensure regular monitoring of the tractors.

The commissioner further directed the ministry to dispose the rice milling machines lying at the ministry’s workshop to interested farmers. He reiterated the state government’s resolve to continue assisting farmers with agro allied machineries to boost food production in the state.

In his remarks, the permanent secretary of the ministry Alhaji Baffa Bello, said since 2003, the state government has sold over 360 tractors to farmers at 60 percent subsidy. He assured the commissioner that an ultimatum would be given to the beneficiaries within which they should pay or have the allocation cancelled.
