“Agro-Processing Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Support Project (APPEALS) has revealed that no fewer than 1000 farmers in the category of People with Special Needs (PSNs) are expected to benefit from agricultural support intervention anchored by the project in Kano.

This was disclosed by the Kano State APPEALS project coordinator, Malam Hassan Ibrahim, during a one-day sensitization meeting with PSNs in Kano.

According to him, the project, which is supported by the World Bank, Federal Government of Nigeria and Kano State, is aimed at enhancing processing, value addition, post-harvest management, women and youth empowerment with a view of reducing post-harvest losses among other disturbing issues affecting the progress of small and medium farmers’ prospects in agro-business across rice, tomato and wheat value chain.

He said the sensitization meeting was to educate PSNs on the chances the project was giving to them to get fully involved in agricultural practices, adding that the project has stipulated that out of the 10,000 targeted beneficiaries 10% should be PSNs members.

Similarly, addressing participants during the meeting, the project’s women and youth livelihood specialist, Malam Usman Muhammad, stated that the project will only intervene in areas chosen by the members, adding that a special training will be conducted to acquaint them on the requirements for access to the intervention package.
