A father and his teenage daughter have lost their lives after falling into an abandoned well in Yancibi Village, Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday evening, involved Abubakar Abdullahi, aged about 45, and his 15‑year‑old daughter, Fiddausi.
According to the Kano State Fire Service Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, Fiddausi accidentally slipped into the well.
Abdullahi said in a desperate attempt to save her, her father also fell in.

He said rescue workers from the Tsanyawa Branch Office responded immediately but were unable to complete the operation due to darkness and difficult conditions.
He said, “By the early hours of Wednesday, July 22, a team from the Fire Service Headquarters joined the effort and recovered both victims. They were found unconscious and later confirmed dead.
“The bodies were handed over to the Village Head of Yancibi, Shamsu Sani.”
He then expressed condolences to the family and urged residents to avoid entering wells without proper rescue equipment.
