A male resident of Rangaza quarters in Nassarawa local government, Kano state was arraigned before Sabon Gari Shari’ah Court at ‘Yan Alluna, Fagge for allegedly burning his son with hot water.
Muttaka Usman was dragged to the court by his brother-in-law, one Musa Isyaku of Gunduwawa quarters who reported to police that the accused has beaten and poured hot water on his son, Umar Muttaka, thereby inflicting injuries on his body, the court document stated.
The complainant who is a maternal uncle of the child nephew told the court that his sister had separated with the accused person but he still keeps custody of the boy.
However, when asked by the court if the allegation was true, the accused person denied the charge but explained that the boy fell on a pot which contained the hot water that burned him.
“I was beating the boy as a correction measure to compel him to go to school and while he attempted to run away, he fell on pot containing hot water, thereby sustaining burns,” he told the court.
The presiding judge, Malam Abubakar Mahmud Ayagi ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the matter to February 15 for continuation of hearing.
