The police in Lagos State have arrested a man and his son for allegedly selling Tramadol and other hard drugs to primary and secondary school pupils in the state.

The father, Ibrahim Sheu (40), and Faruk Ibrahim (23) were arrested on Friday after officials of the Office of Education and Quality Assurance, Lagos State, alerted Rapid Response Squad (RRS) officers about the incident.

The state Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, who paraded the suspects among others said based on information received from the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs that pupils of some primary and secondary schools in the state were suspected to be indulging in the intake of hard drugs, deployed operatives from the RRS in collaboration with the ministry located the schools (names withheld) and interviewed the pupils and students.

He said the confession of the children led to the arrest of the suspects who were allegedly selling Tramadol, a highly additive stimulant to the underage children.

He said, “The suspects confessed to have been selling drugs to the children. I want to advise parents to be extra vigilant and keep constant watch on their children and their friends. Parents should do  surprise checks on their children and often look out for change in behavior.

“The school should also be interested in the activities of the children under their care and report any strange faces lurking around school premises to the police or security agents or paramilitary groups in the area.”

Recovered from the suspects were 72 pieces of Tramadol capsules and some other capsules.

The father, Ibrahim Sheu, initially denied selling hard drugs to pupils that it was his son that sold to the pupils whenever he was not around; however, later confessed they both sold to pupils and added that they sold to adults too.
