A High Court in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, has remanded a father, his son and one other person in a custodial centre over the alleged murder of a woman following witchcraft accusations.

The three suspects—Bello Usman, 50; his son, Naziru Bello, 20; and Ahmed Chubado, 20—all from Digno Community in Daware District of Fufore Local Government Area, were charged before Justice Benjamin Lawan Manji on Tuesday for allegedly conspiring to kill a woman, Dudu Usman, of the same address.

The prosecutor said the defendants allegedly stormed the residence of the deceased, who was also a sister to the first defendant, Bello Usman, accusing her of bewitching the second defendant, Naziru Bello.

He told the court that on August 26, 2025, the trio allegedly beat the deceased into a coma and set her house on fire. She was later rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Yola, by neighbours for treatment, but was confirmed dead by the medical doctor on duty.

The prosecutor emphasised that the victim lost her life as a result of the injuries sustained from the severe beating inflicted with sticks by the defendants during the altercation.

When docked, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the three-count charges preferred against them.

Counsel to the state, Barrister Shuaibu Musa (DLR), applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution to call witnesses. The application was not opposed by defence counsel, A.U. Sangare.

Justice Benjamin Lawan Manji thereafter adjourned the case to February 16, 17 and 18, 2026, for proper hearing.
