Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has approved the constitution of two committees on prerogative of mercy and chieftaincy.
A statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, said yesterday that the committee on prerogative of mercy would work with the state executive on granting state pardon to offenders convicted under any state law. The statement said the government relied on Section 2 of the Commission of Inquiry Law of Ekiti State in approving the constitution of a Chieftaincy Review Commission. Part of the terms of reference of the commission is to examine thoroughly on merit, the various representations, claims and petitions submitted by communities after issuance of the White Paper on the Hon Justice Oyewole report on upgrading or otherwise of recognised chieftaincies and autonomy/recognition of communities.
