“I have just spoken with my brother, Mr. Peter Ayodele Fayose, congratulating him on his victory. In a few hours from now, I would be meeting the Governor-elect to discuss the future of our dear state and how we would work together to institute a smooth transition programme,” he said in a statement from Government House yesterday.
The governor-elect Mr. Ayo Fayose on his part said he would work with his opponents in the just concluded elections.
Fayose who was addressing newsmen in Ado Ekiti yesterday also pleaded with security agents to release  those arrested in connection with the polls.
He described his main opponent, outgoing governor Kayode Fayemi, as a courageous leader, adding that he  would continue to see him as his governor and a great leader.
He dedicated his victory to God and the people of the state without whom he said, success would not have been possible.
“Fayemi has called to concede defeat and I will see him tomorrow in his office to let the people know that we are one. Ekiti belongs to all of us. I salute his courage, I salute him for allowing peace to reign in our dear state. The governor is my brother, he has served and done his best to sustain peace in the state,” he said.
Fayose warned his supporters against insulting the governor, and promised to initiate empowerment programmes to alleviate poverty in the state. He assured that his government would not abandon any project yet to be completed by the Fayemi government.
“We must learn to embrace continuity, because playing politics with the lives of people can destroy any country,” he said.
Fayose beat incumbent governor, Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to emerge winner of the gubernatorial election.
INEC returning officer, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Oye Ekiti, Professor Isaac Azuzu,  said Fayose polled 203,090 votes to defeat Fayemi who scored 120,433 votes. The second runner-up in the election, Opeyemi  Bamidele of the Labour Party secured 18,125 votes.
This is the second time Fayose would defeat an incumbent governor. He defeated former governor Niyi Adebayo in 2003, but was impeached on October 16, 2006, after which a state of emergency was imposed on the state by former president Olusegun Obasanjo.
