Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate at the 2014 Gubernatorial election in Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose has been declared winner of the Saturday election.
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’ Returning Officer, Professor Isaac Ozuzo declared the former Governor winner of yesterday’s election in Ado-Ekiti this morning.
Fayose won in all the 16 Local Government Areas and 158 out of 177 Wards, polling total votes of 203, 090.
He said the candidate of the All progressives Congress (APC) and incumbent governor of the State, Kayode Fayemi came a distant second with a total votes of 120, 433.
The Labour Party candidate, Opeyemi Bamidele, came third with a total votes of 18, 135.
The election was peaceful all through and has been adjudged free, fair and credible.
Meanwhile, incumbent Governor had earlier expressed fears that the presence of some highly placed individuals from Abuja in the state may influence the outcome of the election.
Fayemi who expressed the concerns on Saturday while standing on the queue at Ogilolo ward, Unit 009 before the voting exercise said, those highly placed government officials had no reason to be in the State.
“Ekiti is generally peaceful, but the process leading up to this process is a bit problematic. There are indiscriminate arrests,or what I might call abduction of our party leaders or attempted abduction.
He added that: “We have had a number of incidence in a number of communities like in Egbe,where residence of one of our leaders have been surrounded by soldiers for reasons that are not all together clear to me by as at now”
“The other issue we have to escalate to the authorities is the presence of those who do not have business in Ekiti. Musiliu Obanikoro,the Minister of state for defence, Chris Ubah, who has been going round with men of the security agencies and I don’t know in what capacity he is doing that. The men are with Green armed band who are not officially deployed here.
“These persons who are not officials of the state nor indigenes of Ekiti are moving around with security people in the state. That is not acceptable,even as the chief security officer of the state,I have not stepped out of my residence until this minute that I have come to do accreditation and file out to cast my vote.
