An aide to Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose has approached an FCT High Court to seek for N500million compensation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)  for unlawful detention.

The aide, Abiodun Agbede claimed he was arrested and detained by EFCC on June 27th in connection with a N1.2bn fraud. Speaking through his counsel, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), he said he was in court to seek justice by an application for the enforcement of his fundamental rights and he prayed the court to award the sum of N500million as compensation for his unlawful  detention.

Ozekhome said it is an error to detain a suspect and begin to look for evidence or carry out investigation.  He said that EFCC got a warrant of remand on June  30 from a Magistrate in Lagos in pursuant to the Administration of Criminal Justice Act of Lagos.

Counsel to EFCC, Raymond  Ezekiel in his opposition to the application claimed that the issue of breach of fundamental rights does not arise at all.

Justice Olukayode Adeniyi had adjourned ruling on the motion for today July 19th, however, following a meeting with counsels in his chamber, the ruling was further adjourned to Thursday, July 21st.
