The First Bank of Nigeria PLC recently organised an entrepreneurship awareness seminar to educate women on wealth creation and financial management. About 150 women drawn from the South South and South East geo-political zones participated in the event.

The seminar organised under the platform of ‘FirstGem Empowerment Program’ and held in Port Harcourt, was to enlighten Nigerian women especially those from the southern region on their potential and capacity to create wealth and support their families.

Declaring the seminar open, the Chairman of First Bank Plc, Mrs Ibukun Awosika, urged Nigerian women to develop discipline in financial management by shunning extravagant and unnecessary spending.

She stressed that women were assets to their households, adding, “this is because they are able to stand in on the day of hardship.”

She however pointed out that some women could make money but did not understand the real management of money or have informed judgement on how to manage money.

Also speaking, Mrs Subu Giwa-Amu of Brookstone Investment and Properties urged women not to invest in any business they did not understand.

Some of the participants who spoke with our reporter expressed happiness with the bank over the seminar and that they would put what they learnt into practice.

Mrs Juliana Okere, one of the participants, said she is now better informed on how to manage financial resources.

Another participant, Eucharia Emenike, said “before now I thought that catering for entire household is the sole responsibility of the husband but with what I have learnt in this workshop, I am better informed and from now on I will try my best to assist in the family upkeep.”
