The Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Umar Gambo Jibrin, has urged residents to take up the challenge of supporting and caring for the aged.

Jibrin, who spoke when his wife’s Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), Pause Old Peoples’ Home, provided free medical check-up, treatment and palliatives to elderly persons in Abuja, said it should be natural caring for the elderly because they were vulnerable and such care and support would help them live in good health.

The beneficiaries of the outreach were elderly people from Mabushi and the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)’ camp in Durumi district.

Founder of the NGO, Hajia Hauwa Umar Jubrin, said it was organised to show care and love to senior citizens and also take care of their basic health needs.

“Since the COVID-19 outbreak, we have been imagining how their lives would be because, ordinarily, these are people that are vulnerable and for the fact that their lives are at risk during the pandemic, we have decided to bring them together, to see how they are faring, and to make sure they are coping,” she said.
