Before the FCE incident, class attendance at BUK was usually very high to the extent that seating spaces were scarce for late comers, but the story was different last week as many students did not come to school and even those that came arrived late with most of them refusing to enter the lecture halls.
“I purposely stayed back to monitor the situation because I love my life and I have to live before talking about education. What happened in FCE Kano is a lesson for everyone,” one of the students said.
The FCE incident has created fear in the minds of students of various institutions, including BUK, pushing many students into the dilemma of forgetting about studies and running for their dear lives or taking the risk and continuing with their studies.
This year alone, three schools in Kano State have witnessed attacks from the insurgents. First was the School of Hygiene where eight students lost their lives followed by Kano State Polytechnic where six students died and recently the Federal College of Education (FCE) Kano where scores of people including a lecturer were killed.
