The Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe has produced over 20, 000 holders of the National Certificate in Education (NCE) since its inception over 30 years ago.

Provost of the College, Dr Ali Adamu Boderi, who stated this during the 6th – 35th combined convocation ceremony of the college, recently, said it has also graduated an appreciable number of degree holders in its affiliated programme with the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi and the University of Maiduguri, respectively.

The college also conferred its fellowship on Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim and the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, at the occasion.

He said the general purpose of the college was the production of competent technical and vocational teachers, with sound moral and academic acumen for optimal and better performance in primary and secondary schools in Nigeria.

The provost also stated that despite the paucity of funds, the college was able to achieve the construction of standard academic board complex, automobile workshop and the construction and furnishing of an Early Childhood Care Education (ECCE) complex among others.

He urged the graduating students to effectively utilise the technical, vocational and entrepreneurial skills to become self-reliant and employers of labour, adding that entrepreneurship is the answer to unemployment challenges.

Also speaking, the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, said the federal government has released N6 billion to enhance teaching, curriculum review and development in six Federal Colleges of Education across the country.

Represented by the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Prof. Paulinus Okwelle, the minister said the funds were provided to the colleges through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).

He said each of the institutions received N1 billion as take-off grant for the project, noting that the funds would be sustained in the next five years by the TETFUND.
