Professor Sa’ad disclosed this in Yola, according to a statement from the college signed by its spokesman, Malam Bashiru Abdullahi.
The provost pointed out that the college originally intended to run degree programmes in about 20 courses, but got accreditation in only nine areas for the 2014/2015 session, hence the need to redouble its effort to get more approvals.
He said: “Our effort now is to ensure that we get approval to introduce four to five more degree programmes and also admit more NCE students. That is why we are embarking on massive construction and rehabilitation.”
Professor Abdul-Mumin, while commenting on financial support to the educational sector, commended the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) for its intervention of the educational sector nationwide.
He said: “Fortunately, TETfund as an agency of government has been one of the major financiers of our training programmes. Most of the building projects we have were funded by TETfund.”
He listed some of the projects to include the construction of new Directorate of Undergraduate Studies, new School of Arts and Social Sciences, a 1,000 capacity auditorium, a completed multimedia language laboratory as well as a planned 500 capacity ICT examination hall among others.
“Because of TETfund intervention, we have been able to send many of our staff on training at Masters and PhD abroad, we have been able to renovate our laboratories and classrooms as well as address some of our critical problems,” he said.
